How To Create, Prepare To Run And Run An Educational Course

Creating and conducting an educational course can be challenging, but also rewarding process. 

Although there is no definitive answer how to conduct an educational course there are three stages and some common steps that can be useful to you.


STAGE ONE - CREATE YOUR COURSE PROGRAMME AND PLAN YOUR LESSONS

STEPS:

  • Determine your target audience - the age, stage of learning and development of your students;
  • Identify students needs, interests and goals;
  • Define the subject and the objectives of your course - what are expected outcomes of the lesson/ programme;
  •  Define the time limits- single lesson course or extended in few or more classes programme;
  • Define what strategies, approaches and methods you will use in your course to reach your teaching goals;
  • Design the course structure and activities ;
  • Define how you will measure student’s progress and achievements;
  • Create backup plan in case of any technical difficulties during your course, such as alternative internet connection, platform or a phone number to contact your students.


STAGE TWO - PREPARE FOR YOUR COURSE

STEPS:

  • Create a compelling course title and description;
  • Highlight the benefits of your course;
  • Promote your course, for example by running ads on social media, offering free preview, etc.;
  • Choose an appropriate platform/ if it online/ or settings and tools for your teaching by considering some important factors: accessibility, affordability, functionality, security, etc;
  • Communicate with your students about the date, time and other important details as platform and tools you will use. Set clear expectations for expected students’s participation and behaviour during the course; encourage your students to ask questions 
  • Offer support to students.


STAGE THREE - DELIVER YOUR COURSE

STEPS:

  • 10 - 15 minutes before the start of the course check your settings following your risk assessment and safety policy and procedures if your course is on site, or test your internet connection, the technology and troubleshoot any issues if your course is online;
  • Implement your program and lessons by following your plan and deliver the content of your course;
  • Adjust the content and activities if needed and use your professional judgment and creativity;
  • Monitor your students’ engagement and understanding through the lesson;
  • Evaluate the course effectiveness and reflect on your teaching;
  • Review a course materials.
