How to switch to online learning

Online learning is a valuable tool for personal and professional development, but can also be challenging for many students who may lack motivation, interest, or interaction with their peers and teachers. It can be difficult for many students who may face technical issues, academic challenges, or emotional stress.

Steps to switch to online learning:

Before you make decision consider and discuss your reasons, learning style, time management skills, research and compare.

Research and Choose a Program: Look for accredited online schools or programs that offer the courses and support services you need. Consider factors like flexibility, program duration, student support, and cost. There are many resources online to help you find the right program

Find  a school / courses that offer engaging and meaningful online learning activities that can capture student’s attention, stimulate their curiosity, foster their participation, and enhance learning outcomes.

You need also consider: Cost: Online schools can vary significantly in cost, including tuition, registration, and exam fees.

Curriculum: Make sure the school offers the curriculum you are looking for, whether it is the English National Curriculum or a different curriculum.

Socialisation: Consider how the school will help your child socialise with other students. Some online schools offer virtual social events and clubs, while others may not

Get Tech-Ready: Ensure you have a reliable computer, internet connection, and webcam. Familiarise yourself with the school's learning management system (LMS) where you'll access course materials, attend online classes, and submit assignments. If you have chosen individual online courses, familiarise yourself with the platforms and apps which the teachers use.

Stay Motivated: Set realistic goals, track your progress, and reward yourself for completing milestones. Online learning requires self-discipline, so find ways to stay engaged and motivated

Check if the school/ teachers offer support to students and what kind they offer: This could include academic tutoring, pastoral care, technical support, resources, adequate guidance and assistance as well as providing access to a forum, answering questions via email, or offering live support.

Join Online Learning Communities: Many online schools and platforms offer online forums or communities for students to connect and support each other. Participating in these can help you feel less isolated and provide opportunities to learn from your peers.

These steps and developing strong time management and communication skills, can help you make a successful switch to online learning and achieve your academic goals.
